The USAPA Approved Pickleball Court Dimensions

The pickleball court dimensions are the official sizes and measurements of the playing area for the sport of pickleball. Pickleball is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.



Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), the number of pickleball players in the United States has grown by 159% over the past three years.

As the popularity of pickleball continues to grow more and more places are offering pickleball courts. This makes it easier for people to find a place to play. There are also many pickleball clubs and tournaments that people can participate in.

It can be played by singles or doubles on a court that is similar to a doubles badminton court.

According to the USA Pickleball Association Rulebook

  • The pickleball court is a rectangle measuring 20 feet by 44 feet, with a net height of 36 inches at the sidelines and 34 inches in the middle. 
  • The court is divided into two equal halves by the net and each half is further divided into two sections by a non-volley line (also called the kitchen line) that is 7 feet from the net.
  • The area between the non-volley line and the net is called the non-volley zone or the kitchen. Where players are not allowed to hit the ball in the air (volley) unless it bounces first.
  • The area behind the non-volley line is called the service court, where players serve and return the ball.
  • The service court is further divided into two service zones (right and left) by a centerline that extends from the non-volley line to the baseline. 
  • The service zones are 15 feet long and 10 feet wide.


  • Some Best Court Surfaces To Set up A Pickleball

    The pickleball court can be set up on various existing surfaces, such as tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, badminton courts, or inline hockey rinks. 

    However, some adjustments may be needed to fit the pickleball court dimensions and lines. 

    For example, if setting up a pickleball court on a tennis court, one option is to use the existing singles sidelines as the pickleball sidelines. And add new lines for the non-volley zone and the centerline. 

    Another option is to use tape or chalk to mark new sidelines that are 3 feet inside the tennis singles sidelines. Then add lines for the non-volley zone and the centerline. 

    The advantage of this option is that it creates more space around the pickleball court for safety and movement.
